About the summer grant
The summer grant is offered to SSP students who wish to apply for funds to assist with domestic or international summer research, language immersion, and domestic or international internships. Coursework completed stateside is not eligible for funding but you may use funding to study abroad. (Note: credits may not be transferred towards your SSP M.A. degree.) The funds, which are provided by the Dean's Office in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, are intended to offset the costs of academic and professional development opportunities which would not be otherwise feasible.
Every year, we receive dozens of applications. The applications are reviewed and chosen based on how the summer grant will allow the student in question to further his (hers) academic or career development. The Security Studies Program is proud to report that since the grant program has begun, we have given the summer grant to the vast majority of applicants.

About SSP Around the World
This blog was created in an effort to highlight the experiences that our students are exposed to thanks to the summer grant. Each post is written by a different student who received the grant, and it gives a glimpse of the research, internship or language immersion taken by the student.
By giving our students a media outlet to reflect on their summer opportunities, we hope to inspire other students to apply for the summer grant as well as to show our Georgetown community the array of endeavors taken by SSP students.
